The True Meaning Of love – Unconditional love

Love is a very common term and often one of the most abused words in the glossary. It is recognized by all men. Even a kid knows this word however, only some understand the real definition of love. Some people describe love as a deep tender and passionate feeling. Some assume it is a strong afinity. A couple would say that love is bliss.

It seems that love is vague and very intricate to describe. You can browse hundreds of dictionaries, legendary psychology books and authors yet they all fail to define the real message and essence of love. To know the real meaning of love, we should refer to God, the author of love. As a matter of fact, God is love.

God does not just love, He is love. It is His very being. everything that God does is because of His love. It is not a dimwitted and sentimental love that most people feel.

The bible describes love in the book of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 as “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails”

That depiction of love is not just a fantasy or warmth, a temporary affection, a growing craving or a matter of favor. People are mistaken about love and how to stay in love. Normally, people only focus on the goodness and the attraction. Certainly, it is easy to love people who are your own flesh and blood or your buddy who stayed with you through thick and thin. What if that person is no good, a misfit in the crowd? What if you are not blood linked and he or she is your foe? Are you still prepared to do the things mentioned in the bible?

Unconditional means absolute or not limited by conditions. Unconditional love is willingness to love no matter what. This kind of love was first demonstrated by God to us by sending His son to save us from eternal death and for us to be called His children. And He did this while we were all sinners and undeserving of the precious gift of eternal life. God loved us though we are seditious and disobedient. Our nature does not know how to love others even ourselves. But because God showed His love through His son Jesus, we now have a good picture of love and not just love but unconditional love.

You may perhaps be asking if humans are capable to love unconditionally. The good thing is that God has given those who receive His son Jesus the gift of eternal life and the ability to love unconditionally. This is through the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells on them.

Knowing God’s love brings fullness to life. Only His love satisfies thus allows you to relish and have a significant life. Allow God to show and experience His love through believing in His son Jesus Christ and giving your life to Him. Then love will automatically overflow and empowers you to love other people unconditionally through the Holy Spirit.
