The Toronto Board of Trade (TBT) published for the third time its annual Scorecard on Prosperity. The survey appraises 24 most prominent cities across the world for their attractiveness for workers and families, living environment, and economic growth. Some of the surveyed cities were Boston, Tokyo, Calgary, Paris or San Francisco.
Calgary is Canada’s only CMA to get an Economy grade of B. Toronto is still behind, ranking eleventh having received a C. Calgary managed to make up for weak rankings in market size, IPOs and the amount of venture capital investment with excellent results in income growth, favourable unemployment rate, residential building permit growth, and the growth of GDP. Calgary’s average GDP growth is approximately a little more than five per cent, the 2nd fastest-growing GDP of the 24 all the surveyed metro areas. However, no city comes anywhere close to the phenomenal growth of Hong Kong, with its 11.1%.
